Homestay at Hiroshima
During our visit to the town of Kitahiroshima, our scholars were divided into four unique groups and each group was hosted by a different host family. The homestay experience gave us all the opportunity to understand a strong sense of familyhood, hospitality, and the traditional Japanese lifestyle and cuisine firsthand.
Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum
Our visit to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum gave us the opportunity to learn more about the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, as well as the untold stories of this time. This visit provided us with a new lens to further understand the importance of this historical period and its impacts to modern-day Hiroshima.
Host Families
The four host families taught us valuable lessons of environmental and food sustainability, traditional Japanese practices within the home, and the appreciation of life and local culture within the beautiful town of Kitahiroshima, the northernmost part of Hiroshima city.
Miyajima
Miyajima is a small island located in Hiroshima Bay, known for its iconic floating torii gate, which appears to be floating on the water during high tide. The island is also home to several shrines and temples, including the Itsukushima Shrine, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Sophia University
Sophia University is a prestigious private research university located in Tokyo, Japan. Established in 1913 by the Jesuits, Sophia University is known for its academic excellence and commitment to social justice. With a diverse student body and a wide range of programs, Sophia University is a top choice for students seeking a world-class education in Japan.
Panasonic Center
The Panasonic Center in Tokyo offers a comprehensive display of Panasonic's state-of-the-art products and solutions, alongside immersive and interactive experiences. The center's exhibits span across a wide range of domains, from home appliances to automotive technology, catering to diverse interests and preferences.
Odaiba
Odaiba is a man-made island located in Tokyo Bay, Japan. It is a popular tourist destination known for its futuristic architecture, shopping malls, and entertainment facilities. Odaiba offers a unique blend of modernity and tradition within the bustling city of Tokyo.
Tokyo National Museum
The Tokyo National Museum houses a vast collection of over 110,000 items, including ancient pottery, samurai swords, and intricate textiles. The museum captures a fascinating glimpse into Japan's rich history and art.
Meiji Shrine
Meiji Shrine is a Shinto shrine located in Shibuya, Tokyo. It was built in 1920 to honor Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken. The shrine is surrounded by a forest of over 100,000 trees, donated from all over Japan. It is a popular destination for tourists and locals alike, offering a peaceful escape from the bustling city.
